Below are a list of some frequently asked questions about our services.
1. Are there benefits of having my garments dry cleaned?
The dry cleaning process removes all remnants of dirt, oil and debris form your garments (such as body oils, food oils and wax). When garments are pre-treated, dry cleaning can also remove tougher stains such as coffee and perspiration.
2. Will frequent dry cleaning shorten the life of a garment?
Dry cleaning garments frequently will prolong their life by reducing stress on fibers. Stains typically set with age, making garments unwearable. Ground-in dirt and soil act as an abrasive, like sandpaper, causing rapid wear of fibers. Also, insects are attracted to soiled clothes and will cause additional damage.
3. How do I know which of my garments to dry clean?
Almost any quality fabric can be dry cleaned. Satin, silk, chiffon, tulle, wool, acetate, linen, organza, 4-ply polyester and any fabrics lined in leather or suede should all be dry cleaned. Also, any clothing with embellishments (examples: fancy beadwork, rhinestones or sequins) should be professionally cleaned. It is also recommended that you check the labels of your clothing for proper care instructions.
4. What causes yellowing and/or fabric damage?
Heat exposure or the passage of time can cause stains from food, beverages, and other oily substances to oxidize and turn yellow or brown. Once stains become yellow or brown, they are far more difficult to treat and often cannot be removed. Some fabrics react badly to common chemicals such as antiperspirant, perfume and aftershave. Applying these common chemicals before you dress can help avoid fabric breakdown or discoloration, but over a period of time damage can take place. Repeated contact to perspiration will eventually lead to permanent yellowing that is commonly seen on shirts and blouses.
5. What exactly happens to my clothes when they are dry cleaned?
Your garments are closely inspected prior to cleaning; Pockets are emptied, buttons are protected and zippers are checked. Stains are pre-treated prior to being treated with the dry cleaning solution, steam and vacuumed. After cleaning, your garments are finished and pressed.
8. Spots are on my garments that werent there before dry cleaning. What happened?
Among a dry cleaner's worst enemies are "invisible stains" such as spray from a grapefruit or apple, hair spray or perfume. It is normally these types of stains that consumers see on freshly cleaned garments. These types of stains such as fruit juice, hairspray or cologne can reveal themselves when exposed to heat during processing. Unfortunately, these stains cannot be removed by dry cleaning alone, as a specialized treatment is necessary. If you are aware of such a stain on one of your garments, please inform your technician so they may remove the potential discoloration before the stain sets.
